THE INNER CONVERSION FACTOR IN THE 40 kev TRANSITIONOF Tl$sup 20$$sup 8$ (in German)
The intensity of the 40-kev gamma radiation, with respect to the number of alpha particles in Bi/sup 212/ decay was measured with a scintillation spectrometer. With the decrease of the disturbing gamma background, a thinner Nal crystal was used for the detection of the quanta. With 35.4 plus or minus 0.7% for the branching ratio and 71.5 plus or minus 1.5% excitation of the levels, alpha plus or minus 22.8 plus or minus 1.0 for the internal conversion factor. From the ratio alpha /sub L// alpha plus or minus 0.80 plus or minus 0.02 one obtains alpha /sub L/ = 18.2 plus or minus 1.0. This value is lower than that calculated for an Ml transition and a point nucleus. The agreement between the value calculated for a nucleus with radius R = 1.2 x 10/ sup -13/ x A/sup 1/3/ cm and experiment is good. (tr-auth)
