MICROGRAPHIC CORROSION OF URANIUM BY CHEMICAL OXIDATION (in French)

Journal Article · · Metaux (Corrosion-Ind.)
OSTI ID:4339310

A chemical method for the formation of oxide films on U so that the substructure could be examined in ordinary light was developed. The technique involved treating the U samples by electrolytic polishing in a phospho-chromic alcohol bath, anodic oxidation in the bath at a charge of 1 v for 10 sec, and chemical oxidation for 2 to 3 min in a boiling saturated solution of Na/sub 4/P/ sub 2/O/sub 7/. Uranium and its alloys, both irradiated and non-irradiated samples, can then be examined metullographically in ordinary light. (J. S.R.)
