From international nuclear industries fair; Basel, Switzerland (16 0ct 1972). Three 500 Mw units of the commercial CANDU Pickering Generating Station have now been brought into operation. Unit 1 has been in operation since April 1971, Unit 2 in October 1971 and Unit 3 in May 1972. Experience in commissioning and operating these units is described. The paper deals with heavy water management, fuel handling and other aspects of operating a large scale, pressurized heavy water reactor. (auth)
