Preparation of targets of Ca, Ba, Fe, La, Pb, Tl, Bi, Th, and U by electrodeposition from organic solutions

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instrum. Methods, v. 115, no. 1, pp. 75-81

The preparation of thin and thick films of Ca, Ba, Fe, La, Pb, Tl, Bi, Th and U by electrodeposition from organic solutions is described. Experience has shown that three experimental conditions were favorable for producing uniform and adhering films: (1) the use of only 1 to 2 ml of the organic solvent, (2) the use of relatively high current densities (2-6 mA/cm/sup 2/), and (3) not more than 100 mu g/ cm/sup 2/ of the elements should be deposited at a time. Thicker layers are produced by repeating the electrodeposition after heating the backing with the layer. (auth)
