Diffractive dissociation and the distorted-wave Born approximation

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C, v. 8, no. 6, pp. 2508-2510

The well-known representation of diffractive-production amplitudes as a difference between elastic amplitudes for the entrance and exit channels is investigated, and found to be generally correct in an appropriate sense, for weakly coupled processes. There is, moreover, complete equivalence at short wavelengths (as one might expect) between diffractive-production models and distorted-wave Born-approximation models. This fact is illustrated explicitly by deriving the former representation from the latter for the cases of deuteron breakup and stripping. (auth)
