THE EXTRACTION OF TANTALUM AND COLUMBIUM

A method of extraction of tantalum and niobium from mineral concentrates containing 60 to 80% mixed tantalum and niobium oxides is presented. The method includes extraction of the elements as mixed hydrated oxides, chemical separation of the two, preparation of their pure oxides, reduction to metal powders, and conversion of the metal powders to ductile bars.
