THE HALF-LIFE, NEUTRON CAPTURE AND FISSION CROSS-SECTIONS OF LONG LIVED EINSTEINIUM-254

The half life of long-lived Es/sup 254/ has been found to be 480 plus or minus 70 days. A measurement of the burn-up of Es/sup 254/ gave a reactor neutron destruction cross section of 2700 plus or minus 600 barns. No Fm/sup 255/, in equilibrium with Es/sup 255/ was detected after the irradiation, so that the reactor neutron capture cross section of Es/sup 254/ is less than 40 barns. (auth)
