The relative intensity of the electron bean in the spiral sector model was determined over a large part of the machines nu /sub x/ -- nu /sub z/ stability region in order to study the effects of various resonances. The mean field index k was varied from about 0.2 to 1.16 and the flutter was varied from about 0.57 to 1.6. This has produced an observed variation in the radial betatron frequency, nu /sub x/, from 1.16 to about 1.6 and in the vertical betatron frequency, nu /sub z/, from < 0.4 to > 1.9. The beam is completely destroyed everywhere along the integral resonance ( nu /sub z/ = 1). The half integral resonances observed are 2 nu /sub z/= 1, 2 nu /sub x/ = 3, 2 nu /sub x/ = 3, nu /sub x/ + nu /sub z/= 2 , and nu /sub x + nu /sub z/= 3, of which only 2 nu /sub z/ = 1 and nu /sub x/ + nu /sub z/ = 3 show complete destruction of the beam along their entire length. The bean is also observed to be effected at the positions of the nu /sub x/ + 2 nu /sub z/ = 4, nu /sub x/ + 2 nu /sub z/ = 5, and 3 nu /sub z/ = 2 third integral non-linear resonances. Some effect of the Walkinshaw difference resonance ( nu /sub x/ -- 2 nu /sub z/ = 0) is observed. (auth)
