LIFETIME OF THE 0$sup +$ EXCITED STATE IN Ge$sup 7$$sup 0$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

It is found by a delayed-coincidence measurement that part of the 1.04- Mev gamma radiation following the beta decay of Ga/sup 70/ is delayed with a mean life of r= (4.0 plus or minus 0.9) x 10/sup -9/ sec. This lifetime is assigned to the 0/sub +/ level in Ge/sup 70/ at 1.2 Mev which feeds the 2/sup +/ level by a 0.174-Mev E2 transition. The observed mean life is about sixty times shorter than the Weisskopf single-particle estimate for the quadrupole transition. (auth.
