[(1,1-dideuterio-2,2-dimethyl-4-penten-1-yl-k{sup 3}C{sup 1,4,5})(dmpe)Pt{sup II}]BF{sub 4}, 1-{alpha}-d{sub 2}, and its 3,3-dideuterio isotopomer, 1-{gamma}-d{sub 2} (dmpe = 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane) were prepared and characterized by NMR. Upon heating either of the pure isotopomers to 125 {degrees}C, the compounds rearrange to give a 1/1 mixture of 1-{alpha}-d{sub 2} and 1-{gamma}-d{sub 2} according to first order kinetics. The crystal structure of 1-{alpha}-d{sub 2} was determined and thermodynamic studies of the activation parameters of the isomerization reactions were performed. 1-{alpha}-d{sub 2} crystallizes in a monoclinic lattice.
