Written off by some, and left at the altar more than once by venture partners, Hoechst Celanese`s shuttered 600,000-m.t./year methanol plant at Clear Lake, TX has new life. CW has learned that the company will refurbish and restart the plant and is seeking an equity partner or partners for the going concern, the Gulf Coast methanol company. Market sources figure one of a few large US methyl tert-butylether (MTBE) producers is the likely suitor, in a deal where Celanese would consume half the output and the partner would sell what it did not consume.
