Regulator for reducing the effects of terminal voltage fluctuations in tandem accelerators

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instrum. Methods, v. 115, no. 2, pp. 501-506
A regulator which reduces the effects of terminal voltage fluctuations has been constructed and installed in an FN tandem accelerator. An error signal derived from momentum analysis of the accelerator beam is transmitted to the terminal by an optical telemetry channel. The signal modulates a voltage applied to either the gas stripper canal or the foil stripper. The system has typically improved the transmission of the beam through the analyzing magnet by 30%, and has reduced the spread in the beam energy by as much as 30%. (auth)
