It is suggested that the Orion Nebula is a protrusion off the front edge of the dense molecular cloud whose central condensation is the Kleinmann-- Low nebula. The present model eliminates the two major difficulties associated with previous models in which the Trapezium is located at the center of an expanding cloud, and it can reasonably account for a number of other observations of the Orion Nebula. The difference in average radial velocity between the Trapezium and the molecular cloud may be due to their mutual gravitational attraction. (auth)
