From cryogenlc engineering conference; Boulder, Colorado, USA (9 Aug 1972). CONF-720803-. The first experimental machine was constructed to demonstrate the feasibility of using superconductors for the rotating field winding of a synchronous machine. A preliminary design study has been carried out for large synchronous machines with superconducting field windings. The second machine will test features which may be suitable for application to machines of the 1000MVA class. This machine is described in some detail. (9 figures) (MHR)
