CONVERSION ELECTRON SPECTRA OF DYSPROSIUM FRACTION

Conversion spectra of neutron-sufflcient isotopes of dysprosium were investigated. The dysprosium fraction was recovered chromatographically from a thntalum target bombarded by fast protons. In addition to the expectsd radioactive species (Dy/sup 157/, T = 8.2 hr, gamma = 177 and 325 kev; Dy/sup 159/, T= 134 days, pure K capture; and Tb/sup 157/, T = 4.7 days, gamma = 1400 kev), new energy lines in the conversion spectra were observed with periods of 7.5 to 11 hr, 38 hr, and 4.7 days. It was assumed that various Dy isotopes with periods above 4 hr with subsequent formation of daughter Tb isotopes appear in Ta spallation. The investigated materials were grouped by their half-life periods. A decay scheme for Tb/sup 155/ and a proposed decay scheme for Tb/sup 157/ are included. (R.V.J.)
