SCINTILLATION GAMMA SPECTROMETER WITH CsI(Tl)'CRYSTAL

A description is given of the circuit and of the operating characteristics of a gamma spectrometer with a FEU-19 photomultiplier and a CsI(Tl) crystal 34 mm in diameter and 16 mm thick. The experiments show that the CsI crystal has an effective fraction of photo absorption that is 70% greater (for E approximately 1 Mev) than that of an NaI crystal of the same dimensions. The relatively low resolution of the spectrometer (15% for E = 0.66 Mev) is due principally to the quality of the FEU-19 photomultipliers.
