Energy-averaged S-matrix and doorway resonances

The doorway resorance concept is discussed from a pure Smatrix point of view. The S-matrix point of view shows why the various theories end up giving the same S-matrix for an isolated doorway resonance. This formulation allows also in a simple way the discussion of the case of many overlapping doorway resorances. The energy-averaged S-matrix is discussed in detail. (JFP)
