Dosimetry of neutron beams of a reactor in radiobiological examinations (in German)
The depth distribution of tissue dose and of its components in the irradiation of a body phantom of man with neutrons from horizontal channels P-2 and B-3 of the reactor BR-5 was investigated. The tissue dose at the phantom surface could be shown to be produced essentially by recoil nuclei. In the phantom depth the contribution of these particles highly decreases whereas the portion of the tissue dose due to the reaction /sup 1/H (n, gamma ) /sup 2/H and to the gamma radiation of the reactor appropriately increases. The proton dose of the reaction /sup 14/N (n, p) /sup 14/C is unimportant and does not exceed 2 to 3% of the total dose. The measuring results are compared with the values calculated for wide and narrow neutron beams. The comparison shows that size and spatial distribution of the single components and of the total tissue dose considerably depend on the diameter size of the real beam. The mean tissue dose rates in mice free air'' were measured at the channel exit and in different phantom depths. They were compared with the calculated dose rates which were calculated by integration of depth dose in the phantom for neutrons having the spectrum of the channel P-2. (auth)
