The application of the spherical-harmonics method to neutron-transport problems is dealt with in which the geometrical arrangement possesses spherical or cylindrical symmetry, but the distribution of sources and/or the conditions at infinity lack such symmetry. Certain classes of cases of this nature are considered, and for these, in an arbitrany-order approximation, the solution is given, in closed form, in terms of a finite number of Bessel functions.
