Evaluation of LACBWR vessel stud replacement material. Topical report No. 17

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4331257
In support of an analysis of failures of two LACBWR vessel closure studs, fatigue crack growth data was developed for the replacement material in several environments related to plant operations. None of the environments studied reduced the fatigue crack propagation resistance below the range of values expected for high strength quenched and tempered steels. Stress analysis has previously demonstrated that the fatigue life of the replacement studs would be adequate for programmed service excluding the potential effects of corrosion on fatigue life. These program results eliminate that element of concern. There appears to be no reason to amend the inservice inspection program from the standpoint of corrosion effects. (auth)
