IMPULSE APPROXIMATION AND DISPERSION RELATIONS FOR PION-DEUTERON SCATTERING

The recently derived dispersion relation for elastic forward scattering of pions by unpolarized deuterons is compared with the experimental data in the sense that the results of Chew's impulse approximation are adopted. It is shown that the dispersion relation is consistent with these data. But for a more detailed test of the theory it is necessary to consider other pi -d processes for which the contribution from the non-observable part in the dispersion relations is no small quantity. It is indicated that for this the consideration of the elastic forward scattering amplitude for spin-flip is sufficient. (auth)
