POSSIBLE EXPERIMENTAL TEST OF UNIVERSAL FERMI INTERACTION

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The decay modes K/sub e3/ and K/sub mu 3/, of charged and neutral K particles are discussed with the alm of dertving. in the Feynman-Gell-Mann- Marshak-Sudarshan theory, possible expertmental tests of the hypothests of universal Fermi interaction, which is already apparently contradicted by the present data on the ratto of pi -- e + nu to pi -- mu + mu . Measurement of the K/sub 3/ spectra would already provide a test of the hypothesis, and measurements of the polartzations would give further confirmation. Unique forma of the spectra of the charged leptons are predicted on the basis of the universality hypothesis and of particular assumptions. (auth)
