Nonlinear saturation of the gradient drift instability in the equatorial electrojet

The fluctuation amplitudes of long-wavelength density irregularities in the equatorial electrojet are predicted by using the results of the nonlinear theory of perturbed electron orbits. Good agreement is found with the density fluctuations of 2 to 22% observed by a rocket experiment. (auth)
