Under natural conditions in control variants the meiosis in beans takes a normal course mainly. There are insignificant alterations in separate years, evidently depending on the changes of some factors. Gamma irradiation increases the number of impaired mother cells of pollen, but this increment is much smaller than that observed in anaphasic cells of mitosis. In the process of growth and development of plants the number of impaired cells and the diversity of chromosome damages decrease. The chemical agents aurantine and EDTA possess modifying properties. The injection of solutions of aurantine and EDTA and irradiation of plants in early phases of meiosis lower significantly the number of anomalous mother cells of pollen, decrease the diversity of chromosome damages, and the number of chiasms in the big shoulder of the big chromosome.
