New developments in irradiation facilites in EBR-II

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4328249
The Experimental Breeder Reactor II was designed and built as the original power plant to demonstrate the sodium-cooled fast-breeder reactor concept. It followed the first fast-breeder reactor experiment, EBR-I, which was NaK-cooled and which operated the first turbine-generator to produce electric power from nuclear fission. All experimenters participating in the liquid-metal- fast-breeder development program know that the EBR-II has been operating as a test reactor since successfully completing its original mission, and that EBR-II is the only sodium-cooled fast-flux test facility currently operating in the U. S. program. The special irradiation facilities that have been developed to facilitate the use of the EBR-II as a test reactor ate described and capabilities with applications are indicated. (auth)
