ATTENUATION OF LiH REACTOR SHIELD PLUG

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4327697

Work performed under contract with the Detroit Edison Co. and the Dow Chemical Co. A preliminary calculation was made of the attenuation of neutrons through a lithium hydride shield plug. It has been proposed that a neutron shield be placed between the reaetor core and blanket to prevent the fuel element handling mechanism from becoming so active that it cannot be repaired in case of damage. These approximate results indicate that a plug with a thickness of approximately 70 cm will reduce the neutron current by 10/sup -6/. (auth)
