PWR FLOW COASTDOWN CURVES FOR SIMULTANEOUS LOSS OF ALL FOUR OR ALL THREE PUMPS

Flow coastdown curves are given for the Shippingport Pressurized Water Reactor Plant (PWR) with core 1 installed at four loop and three loop oopration under assumption of simultaneous power loss to all pumps operating. The calculation of the flow coastdown curves was carried out only for a 16-second time interval. It is expected that flow will continue after 15 seconds, with the chock valve hung open. Natural convective circulation will maintain some flow as a result of decay heat from the core, when the flow coastdowm rate approaches that consistent with the thermal driving head. (W.L.H.)
