Fatigue testu were conducted on 100 vibrating cantilever sheet specimens by applying 4,000 cycles of load in a 10-minute period each working day while the speciznens were subjected to atmospheric conditions over a period of several months. Specimens of 2024-T3 and 7075-T6 aluminum alloys in both the bare and clad forms were tested. For comparison, 96 specimems were tested indoors. atmospheric effects shortened the average lives of the specimens by a factor of about 3 for 7075-T6 and 2024-T3 in the bare condition and by a factor of about 1.5 for 7075-T6 in the clad condition, amd had no signiicant effect on the average life of 2024-T3 clad specimens.
