A 2 + 16 p shower produced by a singly charged particle of ~5 x 10/sup 12/ ev energy is analyzed. The energy spectrum of the secondary particles differs from that predicted by Landau's theory but is consistent with Heisenberg' s theory. The inelasticity coefficient is significantly smaller than unity. The fraction of energy expended in meson formation is of the order of 10 to 15%. The ratio of neutral pi /sup 0/ mesons to charged shower particles is R plus or minus 0.54 plus or minus 0.18, which indicates that a small fraction of the charged shower particles consists of heavy mesons and nucleons.
