PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF TANTALUM IN TITANIUM AND ITS ALLOYS BY MEANS OF ARSENAZO (in Russian)

Arsenazo forms with tantalum a soluble violet compound in strongly acid (mainly in hydrochloric acid) solutions. A tantalum-arsenazo complex is formed in tartrate and citrate solutions: it is stable on heating up to 100 deg . It has been established that the titanium-arsenazo complex is completely destroyed in strong hydrochloric acid solutions and does not interfere in the photocolorimetric determination of tantalum with arsenuzo from its taxtrate complex. A simple, fast, photocolorimetric method has been worked out for determining up to 15 % of tantalum in titanium alloys by means of arsenszo without the preliminary separation of titanium. (tr-auth)
