Effect of the condensation conditions and, in particular, the substrate temperature on the structure and thermal stability of the properties of thin films (1 to 5 microns) of carbides of refractory metals was studied. The study was performed on condensates of the carbides of titanium, zirconium, and niobium. On the basis of a study of electrical-conductivity variations and of the results of xray structural and electron-microscopic analyses, it is concluded that condensates obtained at substrate temperatures ranging from 550 to 600 deg C possess a quasi-equilibrium structural state which ensures stability of the electrical conductivity during subsequent cyclic heatings and coolings in the temperature range from 20 to 600 deg C.
