Some uses of thermoluminescent dosimetry at accelerators

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4326534

ABS>Some applicaiions of thermoluminescent dosimetry to health physics problems encountered at accelerators are described. A convenient method of measuring integrated exposures in a mixed radiation field is discussed where miniature LiF dosimeters are placed in various diameter polyethylene spheres. Preliminary investigations using these spheres as a neutron spectrometer have been initiated. A rapid and simple assessment of personnel radiation exposure to gammas is described where miniature thermoluminescent dosimeters are incorporated into the frames of eyeglasses. The evaluation of the integrity of a shield wall is made by insertion of a 12-ft wand through the shield with TLD's spaced every four inches. The practical use and limitations are discussed. (auth)
