Considerations emerging from fuel management experience with ENEL's reactors

Book ·
OSTI ID:4325202
From international nuclear industries fair; Basel, Switzerland (16 Oct 1972). The fuel behavior in ENEL's nuclear power stations, Garigiiano, Trino Vercellese and Latina is reviewed. The operation of these stations has allowed ENEL to acquire a noticeable experience on the various aspects of the fuel cycle, thus determining the evolution of the basic criteria of fuel management. A few meaningful examples of this evolution and the economic and contractual implications resulting from the assumption by the utility of wider responsibilities in core management are discussed. In connection with the destination of the fissile materials recovered from reprocessing, an illustration of the technical basis and the economic considerations which led ENEL to start recycling plutonium in its reactors in 1974 is presented.
