MAGNETIC ANALYSIS OF THE URANIUM-OXYGEN SYSTEM

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
BS>Magnetic susceptibility measurements have been carried out on the uranium--oxygen system in the composition range of U0/sub 2/ to UO/sub 2.67/. The existence of an antiferromagnetic transition at compositions close to stoichiometric U0/sub 2/ which had been previously reported by the authors has been confirmed. The data make it possible to define clearly the phase limits of the U0/sub 2/ and U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ structures and to determine unambiguously that the excess oxygen ions in the nonstoichiometric salts occupy interstitial positions in the lattice.
