Multiple scattering of atmospheric muons at large zenith angles

>Different estimates were calculated for the effects of multiple scattering on the sea-level muon intensities in the momentum range 1 to 100 GeV/c at zenith angles 80 deg , 84 deg , and 88 deg . According to the most accurate estimation, these effects are not so dominating as the previously used correction expression implied. The corrected intensities differ at low momenta essentially from the previous estimates. Numerical values for the new multiple-scattering correction are given in the momentum range 1 to 50 GeV/c. The new integral intensity agrees satisfactorily with the measurements of Flint, et. al. (1972), without any normalization. (auth)
