A significant discrepancy was found to exist between the fraction of high energy electrons observed experimentally and that computed from cascade theory for various distances from the shower axis. The spatial distribution of the energy carried by the electron-photon component can be approximated by the law r/sup -n/ where n = 2 plus or minus 0.5 for shower distances from 2 to 10 meters.
