A PROCEDURE FOR THE NUMERICAL INTEGRATION OF THE BOLTZMANN TRANSPORT EQUATION

The direct numerical integration of the Boltzmann transport equation, using a high speed digital computer, is proposed to determine the high energy neutron and gamma ray angular fluxes at points interior to and at the surface of a reactor-shield assembly. The techniques developed in the course of the NDA neutron-penetration program are adapted to reduce the Boltzmann transport equation to a form where the Los Adamos S'' method may be used to obtain a solution. A detailed formulation of the calculational procedure is given for spherical multilayer assemblies. (auth)
