Title: Radio luminosity function of galaxies

Journal Article · · Mitt. Astron. Ges., no. 32, pp. 108-111
OSTI ID:4322787

A survey of galaxies from the Reference Catalog of Bright Galaxies (de Vaucouleur, 1964) was conducted at 1400 MHz. A luminosity function was constructed from about 170 detected galaxies out of about 700 with known distances. Groups of equal optical luminosity were used because the optical luminosity is known for most of the observed galaxies, and space densities are known frem the optical luminosity function. The radio luminosity function can be evaluated by weighing every positive observation (i.e., detected galaxy) by the corresponding incompleteness factor. (IAA)
