EFFECT OF ELECTRON EXCHANGE ON THE DISPERSION RELATION OF PLASMA OSCILLATIONS

An investigation is made concerning the influence on the dispersion relation of plasma oscillations of the electron exchange which has been left as an open question since the work of Bohm and Pines. The dispersion relation is derived by adopting a canonical transformation which is a little different from that of Bohm and Pines. The result obtained shows that the electron exchange gives a small contribution to the Bohm-Pines' dispersion relation. Results are compared with those given recently by Ferrell using the Hartree-Fock selfconsistent method. (auth)
