Determination of $sup 55$Fe in air filter and deposition samples by x-ray spectrometry (in German)
From meeting of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker on trace analysis; Erlangen, Germany (2 Apr 1973). Iron-55 was determined in monthly collected air filter and deposition samples at Neuherberg near Munich since March 1970 and January 1971, respectively. After ashing, iron was separated by extraction with di-isopropyl ether. Interfering fallout radionuclides were removed by an ion- exchange step. Finally, iron was electrodeposited on a copper disk and the x-ray spectrum was measured using a proportional counter or a Si(Li) detector. Average activity concentration in the air at Neuherberg was found to be 1.0 fCiper m/sup 3/ in 1970 (since March), 1.2 fCi per m/sup 3/ in 1971, and 0.36 fCi per m/sup 3/ in 1972. The annual deposition to the ground was 697 pCi per m/sup 2/ and year in 1971 and 178 pCi per m/sup 2/ and year in 1972. (GE)
