Translated from Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Neorg. Mater.; 9: No. 4, 543- 547(Apr 1973). Experimental studies of the effects of impurities on the sensitivity of CdS crystals under gamma and visible light irradiation were conducted. It is found that when visible light or /sup 60/Co gamma rays act on single crystals of CdS doped with Ga or In, there is a long-term reversible increase in sensitivity to radiation (for gamma ray doses not exceeding 10/sup 6/ R). In crystals doped with Ag or Cu the sensitivity decreases under irradiation. It is possible to compensate the radiation-induced reversible sensitivity changes by doping with an oppositely acting impurity. A method of obtaining single crystals of CdS with radiation-stable sensitivity is described; the necessary dopants are added during growth. (JRD)
