FEASIBILITY STUDY, OPTIMUM PARTIALLY ENRICHED URANIUM, GAS COOLED, GRAPHITE MODERATED

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/4316641· OSTI ID:4316641

The feasibility study and cost estimates for a gascooled, partially enriched uranium, graphite-moderated, 215-Mwe power plant optimized for minumum power cost are discussed. The plant consists of one multi purpose building which houses the reactor plant, turbine generator, warehouses, and shop. Other facilities include an office building, river pump house, substation, and necessary utilities. The estimated costs area design and construction 0 per kw-hr (gross electrical), and produced power 15 mills per kw-hr of which fixed charges are 12 mills per kw-hr. The 2.5% enrichment is selected to provide an averege fuel element lifetime of 10,000 Mwd per metric ton. The outlet gas temperature and pressure of 1000 deg F and 370 psia give a net thermal efficiency of 35.8%. (W.D.M.)
