OXIDATION OF MTR GRAPHITE REFLECTOR

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4316601
A recent report, CRNE-507, The Effect of Pile Irradiation on the Oxidation of Graphite,'' has been applied to the MTR. This information indicates that oxidation of MTR graphite will cause maximum weight losses of about 3%/year and 0.6%/year in the graphite pebbles and permanent graphite, respectively. The average weight losses are estimated to be about 0.4%/year in the graphite pebbles and about 0.17%/year in the permanent graphite. Thus, there should not be any difficulties with the MTR due to oxidation of the graphite reflector. (auth)
