Spectroscopic Isotope Shift in Lead II

Journal Article · · Journal of the Optical Society of America

An investigation is made of the spectroscopic isotope shift in the Pb II visible spectrum by using enriched isotopes. The isotope structure of Pb/sup 204/ , Pb/sup 206, and Pb/sup 208/, and the hyperfine structure of Pb/sup 207/ in the transitions; 15,011 cm/sup -1/ (6s/sup 2/7s /sup 2/S/sub 1/2/--6s/sup 2/ 7p/sup 2/ P/sub 1/2 E), 17,824 cm/sup -1/ (6s/sup 2/7p /sup 2/S/sub 1/2-6s/sup 2/7p /sup 2/ P/sub 3/2 deg /), 18,032 cm/sup 1/(6s/sup 2 7p /sup 2P/sub 3/2 deg deg /) are analyzed with a Fabry-Perot interferometer crossed with a constant-deviation Hilger spectrograph. The samples are excited in a Schuler hollow cathode discharge tube. Spacings between consecutive even isotopes, (205-206), 208 (207c.g.-208), and the ratios (204--206)/(206--208), (206--207c.g.)/(207c.g.-- 208) are given.
