The high-energy part of the spectrum of internal bremsstrahlung (IB) photons accompanying the allowed electron-capture (EC) transition from /sup 7/Be to thc ground state of /sup 7/Li has been measured with a Ge(Li) gamma -r ay ileup rejector. The probablity for emission of internal bremsstrahlung photons with energies higher than 523.7 keV per ground-state EC decay of /sup 7/Be was determined to be (9.0 plus or minus 0.6) x 10/sup -5/. Comparable theoretical results for radiative capture of 1 s + 2s orbital electrons are 8.61 x 10/sup -5/ , deduced from the theory of Martin and Glauber, and 8.60 x 10/sup -5/, deduced from the recent improved calcilations of Intemann. The confirmation of the predicted rate of radiative to ordinary 1s + 2s capture in /sup 7/Be is in good agreement with our recent similar experiment on /sup 51/Cr, but is partly at variance with previous IB gamma -coincidence experiments on /sup 7/ Be. The transition energy of /sup 7/Be was determined to be 851 plus or minus 12 keV, in agreement with accepted atomic mass differences. (auth)
