Investigation of relaxation effects behind reflected shockfronts in shock heated, partially ionized argon plasmas (in German)
Thesis. The ionization relaxation behind reflected shock fronts generated by interaction of fast argon plasma flows with strong magnetic fieids was studied theoretically and experimentally. A model for the shock profiles is formulated, the shock being assumed to be one-dimensional and stationary. Relaxation lengths and times as well as the electron and mass densities in the reflected shock wave are calculated for various values of the frozen shock Mach number and for the two cases of equilibrium ionization and perfect gas without ionization ahead of the reflected shock. Furthermore, radiation cooling effects are discussed. Measurements of the mass and electron density profiles were made by means of two-wavelength Mach-- Zehnder interferometry. Spectroscopic measurements resulted in electron density profiles in the neighboring regions. The measurements show satisfactory agreement with theory after the shock has become quasistationary at large distances upstream from the electrode region in the interaction chamber. (OE)
