CHARGE IN THE PULSE AS A FUNCTION OF THE OVERVOLTAGE OF A GEIGER-MUELLER COUNTER WITH METALLIC AND GLASS CATHODE

Journal Article · · Acta Phys. Polon.
OSTI ID:4313165

A study was made of Geiger-Mueller counters to determine the proportionality coefficient K between the magnitude of the charge in the puise and the excess voltage above threshold. From the Wilkinson theory it was shown that the coefficient can be represented in the form K = AC, where C is the capacitance of the counter and A is a constant depending on the diameter of the wire anode. It was found that this dependence applies both to counters with internal metallic cathodes and to counters with external cathodes. (J.S.R.)
