A description is given of the design and construction details of the Sodium Reactor Experiment. The SRE is a graphite moderated reactor using slightly enriched uranium as fuel. It is cooled by liquid sodium and is designed to operate at 20,000 thermal kw A parallel connected steam plant is provided to generate sbout 8,500 kw of electricity. (J.S.R.)
