The equilibria between neodymium hydroxide, hydrogen ions, and hydroxide ions were studied by measuring the solubility of the neodymium hydroxide in dilute hydrochloric and perchloric acids, neutral water, and sodium hydroxide solutions. Data on equilibrium constants and free energy changes are presented, and to confirm conclusions drawn from the solubility data, the hydrolysis of the trivalent ions of neodymium and praseodymium were studied, basing the hydrolysis constant on the hydrogen ion concentration at which the hydrolysis began.
