In order to study the possibility of using various TL dosimeters and phosphors for comparisons of dosimetric data of different irradiation facilities, several types of commercially available LiF: Mg, Ti materials were investigated with regard to their dosimetric behavior within the exposure range 50 to 1000 R. It was found that all the materials exhibit qualitatively common properties, with some quantitative differences in glow curve shape and luminescence yield arising when changing the radiation energy and increasing the dose. The differences also depend on read-out conditions, hence, if high measurement accuracy is to be achieved, no dose response data found in the literature could be used: the behavior of the actually used and correctly posure and read-out conditions in which the dosimeters are used. The appropriate calibration procedure and use of some control dosimeters (which are capable of detecting uncontrolled changes in dosimetric characteristics) together with the measuring ones allows the measurement errors to be reduced to a value of 1 to 2% SD, not only in laboratory conditions but also during the real measurements.
